Kemps salutes local family farmers.
Members of the farmer-owned cooperative that owns Kemps, Cindy and Matt (a fourth-generation dairy farmer) Damm took ownership of Damm Dairy’s operation in 2003. But they work closely in planning, planting and harvesting with Matt’s parents, who oversee the cropland where corn for silage and alfalfa are grown. And as Cindy says, “We love watching our four kids' enthusiasm for the farm as they grow up. From feeding calves to milking our 160 cows, there always seems to be someone excited to help with something new.” She also notes that their morning milking and chores begin around 8 a.m., explaining, “Although this is not the traditional schedule people expect, milking at 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. gives us the flexibility to attend our kids' school activities.”
