Two 100-Year-Old Minnesota Companies Reveal New Product Line at Minnesota State Fair
ST. PAUL, MINN. (August 21, 2014) — Kemps today announced a partnership with another century-old Minnesota company, Pearson’s Candy, to produce a new line of ice cream. The two companies, both based in St. Paul, announced the new line at the Minnesota State Fair. This year’s fairgoers will be among the first to taste two of the new ice cream flavors that feature Pearson’s iconic candies – Nut Goodies and Salted Nut Roll – months before they hit grocery store freezers in early 2015. The announcement was part of Kemps’ yearlong celebration of the company’s 100-year anniversary.
“We are excited to announce this partnership with Pearson’s Candy Company, another beloved local company, at the most Minnesota place possible—the Great Minnesota Get-Together,” said Rachel Kyllo, vice president of sales and marketing for Kemps. “As we celebrate our 100 year anniversary, a partnership with Pearson’s who has been well-known to Minnesotans for 105 years, was a natural fit. We’re so happy to give fairgoers a sneak peek before they hit shelves next year.”
This isn’t the first time the two companies have joined forces. Kemps and Pearson’s Candy produced limited edition flavors in the past and because of the strong consumer reaction, they decided to collaborate in creating a brand new line of ice cream. The lineup includes three ice cream flavors made with Kemps ice cream and Pearson’s candy:
• Nut Goodies – Chocolate and maple flavored ice cream swirled together with chunks of chocolate nut clusters
• Salted Nut Roll – Marshmallow nougat ice cream with salted candied peanuts and a thick caramel swirl
• Mint Patties – Mint ice cream with Mint Patties cups and a thick fudge swirl
“Over the past 100 years Kemps has become a household staple and favorite brand to Minnesotans,” said Michael Keller, CEO of Pearson’s Candy Company. “We saw such a positive consumer reaction to the limited edition products in the past. We are thrilled to partner with Kemps to bring Minnesotans this new line of products and look forward to giving fans a new way to enjoy our Pearson’s candy and Kemps ice cream.”
Fairgoers can stop by the Kemps booth on Machinery Hill from 1 to 2 p.m. daily to taste the new Salted Nut Roll and Nut Goodies ice cream flavors. All three new flavors will be available at major grocery stores and super retailers throughout Minnesota in 2015.
100 YEAR ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS
The Kemps booth will feature the Kemps Mooseum, a 53-foot-long semi-trailer filled with Kemps memorabilia and surprises. The Mooseum invites visitors to step back in time and see a 1940s-era fully functional stainless-steel soda shop fountain helmed by a costumed “soda jerk.” Other features include an interactive Incredible Milking Cow station where families can milk the rubber udders of a simulated Kemps cow, four interactive “Guess the Ice Cream Flavor” games and iPad-based Cow Art Gallery that enables you to digitally transform cows into disco-dancing divas.
Each Thursday of the Minnesota State Fair, the Kemps booth will play off of social media’s popular “Throwback Thursday” or “#TBT” trend and host a real life Throwback Thursday. The booth will turn the time back to 1914, when Kemps was first formed as a small creamery in southeastern Minnesota. It will feature 1914-themed activities and actors dressed in 1914 attire to pose for photos.
ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES AT THE KEMPS STATE FAIR BOOTH
Sampling IttiBitz ice cream will be available twice daily at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. In addition to learning about Dairy Farmers of America families, visitors can get the famous cow temporary tattoos and enter to win daily giveaways.
